Luke 16:19-31

The Rich Man and Lazarus
19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in
luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with
sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs
came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to
Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he
was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his
side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus
to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in
this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your
good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here
and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm
has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor
can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have
five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of
torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to
them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them,
they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not
be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Mark 9:43-48

43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life
maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. [44] 45
And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life
crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. [46] 47 And if your eye
causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of
God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where
“‘the worms that eat them do not die,
and the fire is not quenched.’

Revelation 14:10-11

10 They will be tormented with burning sulfur ... 11 And the smoke of their torment will
rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night…

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord
Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the
presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.

Romans 6:23
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.

John 1:12
12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to
become children of God.

Mark 8:34-38
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to
be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35 For
whoever wants to save their life[a]will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for
the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet
forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is
ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man
will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
