Help Us See Who YOU See!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are having a great week. The rain sure has been nice this last week. Everything is looking so green and alive. May we know and experience the gentle rain of the Spirit in our hearts, bringing freshness and vitality to every part of our lives.

I have been noticing something in the book of John in regard to how Jesus called His first disciples. Let me share some of the verses and see if you notice the same thing.

Two of John’s disciples hear John call Jesus “The Lamb of God” and they follow Jesus. John 1:36 says,

Turning around, Jesus saw them following.

One of the disciples was named Andrew. He found his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus.  John 1:42 says,

            Jesus looked at him.

Then Jesus went looking for a guy named Philip and when he found him, he said, “Follow me”. Philip found Nathanael and told him about Jesus. John 1:47 says,

            When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching.

Then Jesus had a special word for Nathanael. John 1:48 says,

Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”

What jumped out to me was the role of observation in Jesus’ calling of His disciples. He saw them, He looked at them. They were important to Him, noticed by Him, sought after by Him. They weren’t just faceless masses that filled His fan clubs; they were real people who He paid close attention too.

Sometimes we can feel terribly unseen. We feel that we are invisible to everyone and wonder what difference our lives make. I believe that Jesus sees you. He is looking intently at you. He is aware of you, seeking you, understanding you and calling you.

This is what the infinite God of the universe does with His attention; He spends it on us.

I hope that this gives you a sense of comfort knowing that you are not forgotten. Jesus is looking at you right now. He sees you right now. He is with you right now.

I also hope that this inspires us to allow His awareness to look through our eyes to people that might be feeling forgotten or unnoticed. I want to keep my eyes open, too.

There are people all around us who are feeling lonely, unloved, unnoticed, and unvalued. We have the ultimate Seeker living within us who is constantly reaching out to these marginalized folks. My prayer is that they will feel less invisible because they have come in contact with Jesus Christ through you and me.

Oh Lord, help us to see who you see and see how you see.

This weekend will be the second part in our series on the Armor of God called “Equipped.” I will be talking about the breastplate of righteousness. I am really looking forward to this talk as the study is already penetrating my heart with deep truths and glorious hope.

I hope you have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

            I love being your pastor.
